One question that I have customers ask me is where is a good place to have things printed on canvas if I want something really large or something very custom. Well I have the perfect place for you to go to:
Canvas Press or Really Big Canvas . A part of the same company they serve completely different purposes. Really Big Canvas can make you huge panoramic views of your favorite city skylines. Canvas Press is more of a specialty place. They offer things like changing your photo to an oil painting, and work with you to get exactly the kind of artwork you like.

They use high quality, cotton-based artist canvas so it has a rich depth to the print that you won’t find in plastic and vinyl canvas look-a-likes. Their inks are archival and each canvas is given a protective coating for longevity and protection. The canvases can be easily dusted and cleaned and even hang in direct window-light for years without showing signs of damage and fading.

Which is something of a huge benefit to me. I love knowing that my canvas artwork will last for years, even in direct sunlight.

They also give you tips on how to photograph your kids like here:
http://www.canvaspress.com/articles/photographing_kids_and_pets.html
or give you access to stock photos from the hubble telescope.

The staff at Canvas Press is composed of professional photographers and artists, printing and stretching each and every canvas. They are also focused on customer service, if you have questions or need help you can call and talk to a knowledgeable representative who will walk you through every step if needed, and offer their professional advice. I can personally say this is very true as I want to recreate a collage of old photos that have been in my family for years and they have given me wonderful tips, including how to best scan photos in. (I had never worked with old photos and canvas before.)

Another great tip, if you are looking for a canvas size we don’t offer, or want to try oil effects, you can order the DNA Art digital print through us, and have the canvas ordered through them.

Standard production time is 3-4 days for regular orders, and they use FedEx for shipping.

JustforMeandYou is written by a delightful mommy blogger that keeps her readers engaged by providing parenting tips, delicious recipes, doing reviews of products, and giving away fantastic new items for her readers to win. We were lucky enough to be spotted by one of their writers, Megan, and we were incredibly happy to sponsor a piece of art for a giveaway. (You can win either a digital myartwork or a my crystal .)

Here is a small snip of what she has said about us:
Then, the process starts to get really fun! You next will choose a gene of interest. One of my favorite parts was reading about the genes. I ended up choosing the Human Pheromone Gene, which supposedly controls our sexual behaviors. I thought this was an appropriate gene considering this art would be my husband’s DNA. Other gene choices include: hair color, eye color, taste, circadian rhythm, and mood.

Entering to win is incredibly easy, visit the site:
http://justformeandyou2.blogspot.com/2009/07/mygeneimage-review-giveaway.html
and follow their instructions. They also have a whole list of extra ways to win entries.

So if you want to win some DNA Art please check them out. (They also have a ton of other fabulous giveaways!)

Having a personalized MyCrystal is something that not only you will treasure. Many generations down the line, it will be kept as a memory of you. This is why it is important to take great care of it. Here are a few pointers that will allow your great-great grandchildren to see it in the original shape you purchased it in.

1.Keep your product away from direct sunlight. Harmful UV Rays will degrade the natural integrity of your crystal over time.

2. Make sure to clean the crystal, and keep it free of dust and grime. I recommend windex to make sure that it is clean, but you can use alcohol and water as well.

3.Hold your product by the edges, or use gloves to handle your crystal. Otherwise you will leave visible fingerprints on it, and will have to clean it again.

4.Do not move your crystal on hard surfaces. Crystals are delicate, and scratches will form if you move them back and forth

5.When you display your crystal, it is best to keep it in a dark background. The natural beauty of the clear crystal will show up the best when it is showcased with dark colors.

6. If you are opting to use a light base on the crystal, it is best to make sure it is shining directly on the crystal. (Make sure to choose a light base that does not emit UV rays.) This will allow you to see the magnificent effects of the crystal.

We hope these small tips will help keep your crystal in its original luster for years to come.

Other than the DNA art itself, picking out the perfect gene to exemplify who you are, is the most intimate part of the process. It can seem somewhat daunting to find a trait that completely defines you. However we have a few new tricks that can help you discover what gene you should pick to highlight on your art.

We can break up the gene’s we offer into two different categories: Bold traits that can be seen with the naked eye and deeply rooted traits that only those that know us might see.

Our Bold traits are: hair color, eye color, and human pheremone genes.

Most of the people that I have met pick these genes for a variety of reasons:

1. This trait on them is incredibly unique, they usually hear many compliments or comments about it. Either they have beautiful eyes so they pick the eye color gene, or they are uncannily attractive to the opposite sex so they choose the human pheremone gene.

2. They are buying it for someone else like a gift for a mother of her son and her son has her eyes. Another great example is buying it for your husband or wife and you get the trait of them that made you fall in love with them in the first place.

Our deeply rooted traits are: taste, circadium rythym, and mood gene.

The top two reasons why people chose them are:

1. You identify really well with that part of you. Maybe you are a foodie that loves to cook and try as many different variations of food as possible. You are a night owl that stays up incredibly late and can barely get up before 10 am, circadium rythym may be the gene for you. Lastly, you could be an incredibly optimistic person that can look at the bright side of everything. In this case, the mood gene definitely defines you.

2. These can definitely have a humorous twist. My personal favorite is when someone got the mood one done of her daughter and she told me the reason was because when her daughter was a teenager and might get an “attitutde” she could most certainly point to the artwork made of her and tell her simply it was her mood gene that was making her act that way.

Whatever you choose we hope that you can enjoy this part just as much as the artwork itself.

I have always, always loved to doodle. My notebooks are littered with little doodles of what I am thinking about or working on at the moment. There is just something about it that draws me back to being a little kid and making pictures. However, the older you get the less time you have to really enjoy these little things. Recently though, theKbuzz introduced the graffitti application on facebook to me. What a great way for me to take a 5 minute “me time” break and create someting really fun. It fulfills that part of me to just sit back and draw whatever comes into my mind.

At MyGeneImage we have always wanted to see what people consider their own interpretations of their DNA as well, but we never really had a medium to do it. Then when theKBuzz showed us graffitti they suggested we do a contest with it so people could show us what they think their DNA looks like. Awesome! Was our first response.

Sp we want you to join in on our facebook page, create what you think your DNA looks like, and have a chance to win.

To enter the contest become a fan and post a drawing of what you think your gene looks like. On July 28th we will be choosing the best graffiti art form two categories:

Most accurate representation will win a MyCrystal featuring your DNA
Most Creative representation will win a Digital print featuring your DNA

To get to our page go to

http://www.facebook.com/MyGeneImage and then go straight to the boxes tab. After all we love to see exactly what your interpretation of your DNA art looks like.

Good luck!

Lisa Velasco, writer of 3 boys 1 girl and a dog Blog won our art from MomDot’s Contest. When she won, she decided to have her son, Cody, be the recipient of the Artwork.

Cody is an incredible young man with a bright future in front of him. At the tender age of 9 he already has his life mapped out for him. He wants his whole life to be dedicated to helping people, starting with working as an oncologist or a medical examiner, followed by a life in politics by becoming the governor of Arkansas and ultimately the President of the United States.
He is incredibly adventurous as well and can be described as a “foodie”. He loves new and exotic flavors, from alligators, frog legs, all sushi, and even fish heads cooked Filipino style. He even wants to try snake. Which is why the taste gene was chosen for his artwork. Most people would shrink at eating these foods and not give them a shot and Cody will experience it, and usually loves the experience.

It is wonderful to see a young man with such ambitions and an open mind, and we are sure he will excel at his future ambitions as the best way to get out there and help people, whether it be in medicine, or politics is to be able to get out there, try new things, and keep an open mind.

One thing I have noticed over and over again is that many of the people
who write in our support are financially savvy who love to get a great
deal, but also have sophisticated taste. Well the other day when I was on
twitter I stumbled upon @frugaliciousmom and proceeded to check out
their blog. The site matched the above lifestyle perfectly. The
Frugalicious Mommy is written by a mother-daughter team that works
together to dig up the best deals on the internet. One of their coolest
features is that they can show you all the money you can save by shopping
at CVS and can even do it on a 10 dollar budget. That way you can save a
ton of money on the simple, mundane things in life that you certainly
would rather be saving money on so you can have it for other things. They
also dig up deals and show you how to save money in many different areas,
do product reviews weekly, have giveaways, and even give great recipes to
share. They even have a review on how you can order our DNA Art at a
discount http://tinyurl.com/frugaliciousreview. You can find them at
http://www.frugaliciousmommy.com and hopefully they can help you to save a
few dollars along the way.

Normally when we think of contributing to a major cause, we think of a lot of hard labor, like habitat for humanity. However, the Human Biomolecular Research Institute (HBRI) is having a huge gala this weekend to raise money for Brain Research.

If you live in San Diego, Orange County, or even LA, it’s a great opportunity to come down to Rancho Santa Fe and enjoy yourself this Saturday from 7-11pm.

They will have a live Jazz band, a local TV personality from Channel 10, and plenty of fun items to auction off for charitable causes. In fact, My Gene Image has donated one of our own pieces of DNA Art to be auctioned off to raise money for the cause.

Tickets are $125 and can be purchased from this site: http://www.hbri.org/Gala.htm

Can’t come and still want to contribute? That is just fine! They have a link on the website above that will show you how to do it.

So hope you can join and have a wonderful time.
